THREE schools have benefited from a memorial fund set up by a Swinton couple in memory of their late son.
Their latest donation funded a storyteller’s chair at Swinton Queen Primary School bearing a plaque to the memory of Bruce Cousins.
Alan and Jackie Cousins lost 35-year old Bruce without warning two years ago at their home on Celandine Rise.
Following their loss, they channelled their grief in to helping others by creating a fund in Bruce’s name to help local schools, and CRY - the charity for Cardiac Risk in the Young.
The fund was opened with over £900 funeral donations plus proceeds from fundraisers staged by Bruce’s friends.
Bruce’s old school, Swinton Fitzwilliam, received a bench and sports equipment, and Brookfield Primary will soon have an engraved bench. Queen Primary Headteacher Sharon Joyce said: “We are extremely grateful. The storyteller’s chair is a wonderful way to keep Mr and Mrs Cousin’s son Bruce’s name alive”.
