BOOKS by a new but firmly established Rawmarsh author are to be used as inspiration for a new film.
Tony Beesley’s ‘Our Generation’ Punk and Mod trilogy of books will influence fashion and design in a film due out next year, about the legendary Irish cult record label ‘Good Vibrations’, that gave the world the iconic ‘Teenage Kicks’ by the Undertones.
Tony, whose latest book, ‘Kid on a Red Chopper Bike: a ride through the 1970’s’ has proved another big hit, said: “My writing has led me into lots of exciting areas.
“I have started writing for worldwide music magazine ‘Vive Le Rock’, I contribute features to a superb local magazine ‘My Kind of Town’, do book reviews for the Zanni website (as well as music reviews for my own website) and was recently contacted about the film”.
Of his latest and most popular title yet, Tony said: “I am told it re-awakens lots of people’s own memories with its nostalgic, cheeky mischief approach. We tend to forget so much. I wanted to recreate that world when worry was something for the grown-ups. Going by the positive reviews and reader’s responses, it seems to have done the trick!”
Tony’s follow-up will continue into the 1980’s. He said: “There are plenty of laughs as I try to make something of myself during the Thatcher years, be it creating my own fanzine, running my own market stall or playing in my own band. “It’s about striking out and trying to be someone”. Tony also plans some promotional work with the ex-lead singer and bassist of 70’s Punk band The Boys Kid Reid and his new songs, and a book that documents the Mod rallies at the British seaside - for which Tony would like to hear from anyone with stories and photos for inclusion.
