IT was the turn of teaching staff to come top of the class as they were awarded for being the borough’s best in education.
The group of excellent educators were able to forget about lesson planning and spend an evening away from the school books as they descended to The Keepmoat Stadium for the glitzy culmination of the Best In Education awards.
The South Yorkshire Newspapers-sponsored event recognised the hard-work and commitment of some of the area’s A* educators who inspire others every day.
Those nominated by peers were invited to the winners’ ceremony where they enjoyed a two-course meal and waited in anticipation for the results presented by guest speakers including BBC Look North reporter Tom Ingall.
The list of categories included Best Lunch Person, Best Teaching Assistant and Best Green School with people from the community nominating their chosen model pupil.
And the delighted winners were crowned as they collected their award on stage in front of their proud family and friends.
Graeme Huston, editor-in-chief at South Yorkshire Newspapers, said: “It is heart-warming to hear such inspirational stories from the borough’s best educators.
“These awards recognise those who work so hard to make their school or group the best it can be and it honours their selfless commitment to education. The standard was absolutely outstanding this year and we’re really proud to have been a part of this special event.
“The ceremony was a fantastic occasion and every nominee should be very proud of themselves.”
