THE New Year could see an influx of new jobs to Parkgate.
Retail giant the Arcadia Group aims to open an Outfit store with five new top brand names to join the current Burtons, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Evans under one centre roof.
The total number of jobs to be created as a result of the planned expansion has not yet been confirmed.
Fashion chains on their way to Parkgate are set to include Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge, Oasis and Warehouse.
The news comes as Parkgate was recently named the third best retail park in the UK by consultants the Javelin Group.
But Rotherham Council is concerned that the town centre - where Arcadia closed its Dorothy Perkins and Burtons’ stores this year, is losing out in the face of Parkgate’s success.
There is a second planning application pending for a Frankie and Benny’s restaurant at Parkgate, after an original application was turned down due to fears that the eatery would attract more trade away from the town centre.
It is estimated that the new Outfit store could have an annual turnover of well over £5 million.
